Native Sons was formed in 1996 under the banner of Nga Mahi Arehia performing arts and Windermere Polytech in Tauranga with the blessing of tutor Mabel Wharekawa. Present day Native Sons have transformed from 10 MCs and 4 wahine vocalist to an 8 piece band.
Native Sons have performed at Sound Splash, Parihaka, Trbal Pride, Tainui Showcase, Waitangi, Maoriside Tour, plus many other venues, clubs and pubs throughout NZ.
Our message is about being proud of our Maori culture before any other but also remembering here in Aotearoa we are made up of many cultures - there are no colour barriers in Native Sons. Loving our children is a must, protecting our wahine is a must. Singing and performing about our love for Aotearoa is an addiction. Leading from the front for our kids is what we have to do.
Native Sons have shared stages with: Katchafire, Kora, Cornerstone Roots, Zion Hill, Trojan Koast, Knights of the Dub Tables, Black Seeds, Third World, Echosurge, House of Shem, Foot Souljahs, Scribe, Whirimako Black, Ruia and Rania, 4 Corners, kiNdreadZ, Dave Grace and Injustice, Positive Kii, Ajah, Ngamorehu plus many more.
Love your kids, Aotearoa. Step up, fathers. Step up, mothers.
