Beatrice Carlson is a new media artist exploring painting processes and techniques through the use of Computer technology.
Carlson studied Oil Painting at Les Beaux Arts-Ecole de Nice, France and in the last 8 years she has been trying to find her own painting technique on a computer. The gesture is the same, using a graphic pen like a brush and her hand moves in a fluid, spontaneous way embracing the space of her screen as a canvas.
It always starts with a photograph. Carlson has used the medium of Photography through her work as a fashion Designer for 30 years. It will take one image to inspire her to develop it and re-create it through her computer and reform it into a resolved art work, no different to paint to canvas, this process can take 4-5 weeks. Generally Carlson’s finished works are large in scale 1200 x1200mm at 500dpi and at pixel size, the large scale hides nothing. Carlson has a great eye for detail with huge patience and obvious passion.
Inspiration for ConnexiÒn: “Everything is similar but different, here there, now yesterday. Connection in English is connexion in French and conexiÒn in Spanish.
ConnexiÒn combines a series of European and New Zealand images merged together producing an intricate and graphic art piece that entices the viewer to investigate further into the image.
