Kai to Pie: Auckland On Your Plate is an exhibition and events programme that celebrates Auckland’s extraordinary wealth of people and cultures, its fertile abundance of land, sun and sea, all through the lens of food.
Kai to Pie invites you to journey through a dazzling four-course meal of unique exhibition elements: Fashion, Feast, Fuel and Future. The exhibition showcases past and present stars of Auckland’s food culture, amazing stories of sumptuous feats, films about how we grow and harvest our fuel, and interactive technology to investigate the future of food. From an exploration of the extraordinary 1844 Remuera feast, which boasted a menu of 9,000 sharks and 11,000 baskets of potatoes, to picnics under a chorus call of cicadas, from the White Lady pie-cart to conversations about the changing nature of what we eat, Kai to Pie revels in what it means to be an Aucklander.
Accompanying the exhibition is a full programme of activities and events that tell this city’s unique story; a story that can be told through the dining tables of the 181 ethnic groups that call New Zealand’s largest city home.
The event's programme includes the World on your Plate series, which showcases the incredible array of cuisine available in Auckland. On Sundays keep an eye out for the Trolley Dolly with food to sample, and there’s also a Coffee Festival and so much more to satisfy your appetite. Kai to Pie recognises the role food plays in family, belonging and cultural ties. It’s Auckland on your plate. And it has to be tasted to be believed.
Special Exhibitions Hall. Free entry.
