The 2010 Manawatu International Jazz and Blues Festival presents: The Us - NZ Jazz Connection.

Featuring music from Los Angeles jazz guitar great Bruce Forman and San Francisco saxophonist Harvey Wainapel in concert with the New Zealand connection, Lance Philip - Drums and Paul Dyne - Bass.

Bruce Forman's guitar style has been an important part of the international jazz scene for more than two decades. He has featured as a leader as well as sideman at many of the world's most prestigious festival and concert venues. Known for swinging bop-style phrasing and inventive harmonisations, his ability to work in a variety of settings keeps him in constant demand. If you're a fan of Million Dollar Baby you might recognise some of his work which features throughout Clint Eastwood's Academy Award winning film.

Multi-saxophonist Harvey Wainapel is described by All Music Guide to Jazz as "One of the most promising and versatile players of his generation".

You'll find yourself quite simply taken away to another place as you sit back and listen to these amazing artists collaborating to create something very special.

There's a local influence as well - Supporting artists include The 101 Lab Band, a 14-20 piece guitar group for new performers led by Manawatu guitar tutor Kevin Downing. The participants are mainly students of Kevin's, but also include those of Graham Lovejoy, Gavin Donaldson, Christine Parker and drum teacher Ted Frickleton.
