Within Maori culture the taumata is recognised as a threshold of excellence and achievement. Here it is applied to describe and honour our most established and profiled contemporary Maori artists.
An initiative of Toi Whenua, and as part of the regional Matariki programme for 2010, there will be one significant Maori artist chosen and exhibited in each city (Manukau, Waitakere, Auckland and North Shore).
