Amateur radio on display.
The general public will be able to view the exhibition with other exhibits such as Police Radio Museum, the Institute of Radio Astronomy and Space Research, Software Defined Radio (SDR), as well as the latest in communication equipment for the amateur, which includes the new D-Star digital communications system that will be in operation and on display.
The exhibition is being run in conjunction with the NZ Association of Radio Transmitters Annual General Meeting and conference. NZART represents the amateur radio community to government and local bodies for licensing matters and continuation of the hobby.
Amateur Radio enthusiasts (or Hams as they are sometimes called) use the communication medium to learn and develop ideas about electronics in general. It is surprising how many of the major electronic manufacturers have started from grass roots from within the hobby. Amateur Radio can be likened to Counties Rugby - being the grass-roots for the All-blacks!
The exhibition is only open to the public on Saturday afternoon, 5th June between the hours of 1.30 and 5.00PM, at the Alexandra Park Conference Centre.
