Wing Commander Robert Maurice Conly, MBE (1920-1995), was the only official artist of the Royal New Zealand Air Force, a position he held for 54 years.
Conly’s work spans some of the most significant eras of the RNZAF's history, through times of conflict and peace, from World War Two to Vietnam and beyond. He was also a prolific commercial artist, his work ranging from book illustration to stamp and coin design. Among his commercial designs are the current New Zealand $1 and $2 coins.
Conly: Portrait of an Artist showcases Maurice Conly’s diverse life and work, and is richly illustrated with original artworks from the Air Force Museum of New Zealand’s collection.
This informative exhibition will run through until June, when visitors can look forward to the opening of our next special exhibition, Battle of Britain.
