This seminar traces the evolution of Argentine tango music over the last century from its humble beginnings as a street tune in Buenos Aires to its current fusion with electronic music.

We will explore the achievements of several composers and orchestra conductors and investigate in which way tango music - and its poetry - can be seen as a reflection of 20th century Argentine urban identity.
