There are heaps of extra kids' activities happening at Rainbow Springs these school holidays.
- Kids Native Night-Time Adventure
If you've never seen the park at night, lit by hundreds of colourful lights and alive with nightlife, you've been missing out! This is a great chance for kids to have a guided night tour around the park, finishing up with some story-telling with Fairy Rainbow. This is a very exciting adventure, so bring a blanket and your torch kids, and dress in some warm clothes. It's $12 per person and the adventure takes place over one hour. Don't risk missing out - email info@rainbowsprings.co.nz or call 350 0440 to book, numbers are limited. Available on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays during School Holidays at 6.30pm. (If you don't have a Rainbow Locals Card, normal admission cost also applies).
- Early Bird Walks
At 8.30am everyday - join a member of staff feeding the birds in the morning. A great way to get to know the locals, a great chance to snap some fantastic photos. See the kereru, tui, kaka, kea and other native birds dig in to their breakfast, and learn about the birds as you walk around.
- Tuatara Feeding
Watch the tuatara handlers hand-feed these prehistoric lizards at 9.30am on Wednesdays and Sundays. Tuatara don't move very often and eat even less! Take advantage of this rare opportunity to see these dinosaurs in action.
- Playtime with Jenny
Jenny loves nothing more than playing with her keeper. Be there during playtime to watch the fun, learn about kea and chat with her keeper. Time: 2.30pm Sunday - Thursday, 5pm Friday and Saturday.
- Te Puna tapu o Tuhoe (Fairy Spring) Guided Tours
It's been a while since this was offered at Rainbow - not since 1999! Take this rare opportunity to visit sacred Te Puna tapu o Tuhoe (Fairy Spring) during the daylight, and enjoy a guided tour at the same time! There's no extra cost for this guided tour. It's on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Sundays (School Holidays only) at 11.30am. Email info@rainbowsprings to book your spot or call 350 0440.
- Picnic with the Weka
We're busy getting our weka a little more used to the public, and you can help us. Bring along your own picnic and venture inside the Weka Enclosure for lunch (no weka on the menu here though!). This unique opportunity is available every day, for a maximum of 5 people, and costs $5 per person (if you don't have a Rainbow Locals Card, normal admission costs also applies). Email info@rainbowsprings now to book your spot or call 350 0440.
- Murray's Farm Tours
Join Murray to visit and feed the introduced animals at Rainbow Springs. Meet Pip the Donkey, Lou Lou, Casey and Rattle the pigs, the wallaby mob, Lamborghini the sheep and loads more characters. Murray's Tours are on Fridays and Saturdays during the School Holidays at 11:30am. There's no extra cost for this guided tour but if you don't have a Rainbow Locals Card, normal admission cost applies.
