Who will be King or Queen of our inaugural Karioi Classic on Sunday 18th July. Come and join us for a ride around the majestic Karioi Mountain, 50km of mostly gravel road riding, enjoy the route taken by the competitors of Rally NZ, stunning ocean views and country side.
The race starts and finishes at Te Kopua Domain on the waters edge of Raglan harbour. The first 3km is a steady climb on sealed road, at the top there are awesome views of Raglan township and harbour. This is the point where the gravel road riding begins, and for the next 14km riders will be working their way upwards and onto Ruapuke Road.
Here you have a brief period of seal, gravel, seal and then onto a long section of gravel that will give you views out south toward Aotea and Kawhia harbours. From here it is all about the ocean and undulating riding back to Whaanga Road.
You will be able to check out the surf and breathtaking views at Whale and Manu Bays on your ride back to Raglan township. When riders hit the seal it's approximately 8km back to the finish at Te Kopua. This ride is even fun in the rain! We know, we've done it!
The title of King and Queen of the Mountain is up for grabs and will be awarded to the fastest male and female. Local recycle artist Chris Meek has designed the trophies which will hold the name and time of each years winners - it could be you with the inaugural title. Both the King and Queen will also take away especially designed keyrings, designed by Chris Meek, as momentos of their win.
There are also heaps of others spot prizes up for grabs, sports gear, cafe and shop vouchers, plus lots more. Come on and join us!
