Thursday 1 July, 6.30-11pm
Atrium
$20 + booking fee
Smart Talk: Dr Karen Cronin / Rob Whitbourne / Ray McVinnie
Great Music: Anika Moa
This LATE explores the contentious topic of the future of the production of our food. Is bio-technology the future of food? Proponents claim food technology could help to feed the most impoverished parts of this world and even fuel our cars. Opponents claim the industrialisation of agriculture is profit driven, and not only decreases the quality of our food, but escalates issues of hunger as crops are increasingly grown to feed and fuel the developed the world.
The evening’s panel discussion guests include author, Cuisine editor, columnist, and Masterchef New Zealand judge, Ray McVinnie; Science Leader at the Integrative Research for Sustainability Group at ESR, Dr Karen Cronin; and Rob Whitbourne, Matauranga Maori and agricultural innovation expert. The discussion will be moderated by former editor of the New Zealand Listener and award-winning columnist Finlay Macdonald.
Chart-topping New Zealand songstress Anika Moa performs on the evening in the Atrium.
