Barbara’s training in both painting and fashion design is evident in these dynamic artworks. Unafraid of new concepts, colour and self-knowledge, Barbara invites the viewer to see beyond the obvious in her multi-dimensional works. One can’t help smiling at the wild profusion of colour in her small works in this exhibition.
Having recently moved from the relative isolation of Waiheke Island to the ‘downtown’ atmosphere of Parnell, Bailey is revelling in this new environment, its changes of light, reflections and views.
The large multi-media canvas hangings are reminiscent of Tapa cloth, while the small paintings on canvas ‘pieces’ are the exact size of the Georgian windows in her studio, showing what Barbara sees through those windows.
