Allison Cormack presents Opera Unplugged. Alli and her friends will perform your opera and musical favourites!
Allison Cormack will be familiar to many Nelsonians. She was the winner of the Sealord Nelson Aria Competition in 2005, she performed at the Nelson Opera in the Park in 2006, and in West End to Broadway in 2007.
Her voice is a delicious rich and creamy spinto soprano and her careful selection of music ensures that it is always at its finest. She is a lover of all music but is most passionate about Verdi and feels his music is perfectly suited to her voice. She believes that his music is exciting yet sensible, challenging yet logical, and that he had a complete understanding of how the voice worked.
Opera, says Alli, is elegant but not exclusive. It was written for the people and is representative of the lives of real people. Love, violence, politics, intrigue and crime are all fundamental story lines in opera.
Alli achieved a Bachelor of Music – Performance Voice at Victoria University and has a Diploma Performing Arts – Voice. She also completed a preparatory degree course at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music.
Currently Alli tutors voice and drama students and also participates in local theatre and musical productions. She was recently the stage and musical director for Footrot Flats, and this was a highly successful directorial debut for her.
So, while Alli is already accomplished and experienced, her career is really only just beginning. The next step for Alli is to complete post-graduate studies, and she has chosen to do this at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Dramatic Art in Glasgow, Scotland.
To make this dream come true, Alli must undertake some fundraising activities.
On 31st July, 2010 ‘Opera Unplugged’ will be staged at the Theatre Royal. It is sure to be a crowd pleaser as Alli and friends have planned an inspired program of opera and musical classics. Additionally, there will be lots of other planned and unplanned activites.
This is a ‘one night only’ event and, if you enjoyed the recent ‘Variety Gala’ at the Theatre Royal, you will not be disappointed. ‘Opera Unplugged’ promises to be ‘out of control’!
