The Hutt Valley Orchestra presents a concert featuring a selection of 20th century American music composed by George Gershwin, Ferdie Grofe, Hoagy Carmichael, Aaron Copland and Charles Ives. There will also be pieces by Billy Mayerl and Dimitri Shostakovich who had American connections.
Jazz singer Bonnie Riley will provide some vocal interest to the concert by presenting a number of jazz standards while the orchestra provides an accompaniment. Bonnie, originally from Canada, has a wide musical performing background progressing through pop, country and rock to jazz. Bonnie has completed her first year of study at the New Zealand School of Music's Jazz programme at Massey University in vocal performance.
