Recently graduated from the Curtis Institute of Music, Josef Špaček will begin post-graduate studies at Juilliard with Itzhak Perlman later this year. Born in the Czech Republic, he was educated at the Prague Conservatory. In 2006 he released his debut CDs that feature the complete Ysaÿe sonatas for solo violin.
Josef’s two programmes weave music from diverse cultures and traditions into a stunning display of virtuosity and musicianship. These hallmarks of the violin repertoire stretch back nearly 300 years to Bach’s famous Chaconne, and forward to 20th century Slavic brilliance. Farr’s Wakatipu was written especially for the Michael Hill International Violin Competition.
Presented in association with the 2010 Nelson School of Music Winter Festival.
Programme:
Martinů - Sonata No 1 H182
Janáček - Sonata for violin and piano
Ysaÿe - Sonata No 6 in E Opus 27
Beethoven - Violin Sonata No 7 in C minor Opus No 2
Note: single tickets will be on sale in early 2010. Subscriber tickets are available by contacting Chamber Music NZ on 0800 CONCERT (0800 266 2378).
