The full-length ballet Napoli was created in 1842 for Denmark’s Royal Ballet by Danish choreographer and ballet master August Bournonville.
Taken from the third act of the ballet, Dances from Napoli is a joyous, fun-filled celebration of duets, solos and company divertissement. Set to music by Helsted and Pauli, it has become one of the signature works in the Danish style. This work also includes the famous Flower Festival of Genzano pas de deux.
The ballet Napoli was choreographed after Bournonville had visited Naples. He had been impressed by the local colour and vibrancy of a city in constant movement and he strove to include the "brightness and dynamism" of the city in the work.
This is your chance to get up close to dancers from the Royal New Zealand Ballet as they perform Dances from Napoli.
Workshop:
Children have the opportunity to participate in a fun, energetic workshop taken by a RNZB Dance Explorer dance educator. Learn character techniques and some fun dance steps taken directly from the Royal New Zealand Repertoire.
This event is performed by dancers from the Royal New Zealand Ballet; the entire company will not appear.
