Help Wellington's world-first wildlife safe haven celebrate the 10th anniversary of its groundbreaking multi-species pest mammal eradication on Saturday 30 January.
The activities include:
• Discover the trials and tribulations of establishing New Zealand's first fenced sanctuary, and the work that goes in to keeping pests out.
• Take a closer look at our biosecurity measures and what happens if our fence gets breached.
• Talk to plant and animal pest control staff from Greater Wellington Regional Council, Wellington City Council and DoC to find out what's happening around the region and how YOU can get involved!
• Make your own take-home tracking tunnel from recycled materials, and see what pest mammals are lurking in your back yard.
• Kids will love the Pest Olympics (can you jump higher than a cat?!?) and playing Find the Fugitive as they explore the sanctuary valley.
• Talk to the trapping experts from local company Goodnature about the groundbreaking stoat and rat traps they've developed
• The 'eat for eco-restoration' at our wild food barbecue!
The fun starts at 10am on Saturday 30 January.
