Photospace Gallery invites you to view a new exhibition of works by Nick Bradford, on display from 11 December 2009 - 31 January 2010.

Taupo and the Mountains is Nick Bradford’s second exhibition at Photospace Gallery, following his successful 2005 exhibition Volcanoes and a Mountain.

“This exhibition hopes to portray the beauty and majesty that can be found by those venturing into the high regions of New Zealand. Most of the photographs are of the volcanoes of the Tongariro National Park, an area in which I love to walk. Both of the photographs of Mt Aspiring are aerial, and although it, like the volcanoes, is high and snow-covered, its different origin can be clearly discerned by it's form. I think that monochrome has both the strength and the beauty to complement these subjects.”

Nick Bradford is a medical doctor in Taupo where he has practised for some 30 years. His photography began in 1991 and is all done in monochrome on medium- and large-format negatives. There is no digital manipulation or darkroom trickery, just a high level of craft, enabling the landscape to speak directly to the viewer.

“My reason for photographing is to try to emphasise this beautiful landscape in the hope that more people will want to experience it for themselves, and to ensure it is preserved to thrill future generations of New Zealanders.”

Exhibition opening Thursday 10th December from 5 till 7pm.
