The Bank Art Gallery in Invercargill invites you to view 'Art on Holiday' a new group exhibition, on display from 9 December 2009 - 4 February 2010.

Since it’s that time of year, the brief was vaguely “vacation=relaxation”, or anything ‘holidayish’ and our small but eclectic exhibition is definitely relaxed.

Georgina Henderson, Wayne Hill, Vicki Knudsen, Cala Paenga, Jude Winchester and Gwen Chaloner all have different takes on the subject.

Georgina Henderson’s name will ring bells with you! This inimitable Rosedale artist won the Telecom White Pages Art Award for Southland in 2002 and 2004 with her whimsical pieces depicting dairy farming and the Bluff Oyster Festival.

Georgina’s work is invariably done with a funny story in mind but she is also a skilled and thoughtful landscape artist. She has exhibited widely and her work is much sought after throughout NZ.

Wayne Hill lives and makes art in his home town of Riverton. He is an active member of the Riverton Arts Centre and more of his work can be found on his website www.wayneofthehill.co.nz.

His passion for surfing and the beach life is shown here with just a selection of his found art sculptures and acrylic paintings.

Up and coming Christchurch artist Vicki Knudsen recently won an award in the ILT Art Awards at the City Gallery, and these hauntingly beautiful paintings confirm just what a talented watercolourist she is.

Emerging Tokanui artist Cala Paenga once again exhibits here at The Bank Gallery with some interesting and intriguing relaxation scenes in oil and acrylics and although it’s still mid-summer, her pastel “Essence of Autumn’ is a feature piece.

Pounawea Potter Jude Winchester gets a real feel for summer with her ‘designer jandals’ along with examples of more of her quirky stone fired pieces. Jude’s Demented Budgie Pottery can be visited in Park Lane, Pounawea, phone 03 415 8959.

Otatara artist Gwen Chaloner has exhibited extensively in Invercargill, Dunedin, Queenstown and Riverton in recent months. Working mostly in acrylics her single piece here shows figures in the landscape, based on family holiday snaps.
