Right now, the world is living unsustainably and people need to be more aware of this fact and that it will take a huge collective effort to put us back on track. I think the environment needs to be taken more seriously, especially in New Zealand where our "clean, green" image, is becoming only an illusion. Too often I hear people scoff and make snarky comments about "tree huggers" whenever concerns about the environment is raised which just goes to demonstrate the ignorance of which our society lives in when it comes to what they know of environmental sustainability, and how close we are to destroying the very environment in which we live in. Which in turn is unhealthy to the people, which is unhealthy to the workplace, which is unhealthy to the economy. I think the first step is to really push the environmental envelope and really make the reality of our unsustainable earth known, only then will people be encouraged to band together and help.

Recycling needs to be pushed in New Zealand. Recycling bins need to be placed all over, especially in the big cities, I dont think there are enough of them around, and its so easy to put everything into waste. Many big companies have to take better responsibility as well when it comes to handling waste in their workplaces..

Sustainability and Eco - Intelligence are in the same category.
It is important that we all think of ourselves as stewards of this earth for future generations. On a practical level - sustainability is about how we as humans can sustainably exist on Papatuanuku - thinking about how we source/produce our food, where we harvest our energy, how we live together, how we communicate with one another. Sustainability is not about minimising waste, its about transforming the way we look at waste, not something to just throw away, but ways to upcycle - to increase its quality after its been used, to use again in a different way, to make something last for a generation.

For those keen on learning more read the book Cradle to Cradle - its a massive rethink on sustainability, business and the world as we know it.

Keeping New Zealand green is essential: the worldwide stereotyped image of New Zealand is focused on the green hills, clean lakes, waterfalls, rivers, beaches etc.
I personally recycle every single paper I can at work and motivate others to do so as well. I can see a few forests being cut down and feel like I am causing it.
Low-emission vehicle is in my garage.
I would like to know more about how I can change what's happening around me sustainability-wise and therefore would like to attend that festival BIG TIMES! =]
