Mon 8 Feb ’10, 1:00pm–3:00pm

Where: Te Papa, 55 Cable St, Wellington Show map

Tristan Sharp, Programme Manager at Newcastle Region Art Gallery, will present a free two-hour seminar on youth programming, Monday 8 February, in Te Marae at Te Papa.

Engaging youth audiences is an important challenge for curators, public programmers, educators, and marketing staff of museums and art galleries.

Drawing on a diverse background as a practitioner and researcher, Tristan will illustrate his presentation with youth programming case studies.

He has held positions in regional and state art galleries in Australia, and will present a range of programmes he has initiated for youth. These include the Roadshow Outreach Programme, Bundanon Breakthrough at Campbelltown Regional Gallery, the ARTEXPRESS high school exhibition, Peer to Peer video project, and Artside-in outreach programme at The Art Gallery of NSW.

As well, Tristan will talk about his plans for the future at Newcastle Region Art Gallery. He will also talk about his travel and research experiences in the USA and UK, sharing ideas about working with youth, and online programming.

Tristan Sharp is Programme Manager at Newcastle Region Art Gallery. He has been an Arts Educator for over ten years. In his new role at Newcastle Region Art Gallery Tristan is responsible for the Gallery operations, including its building, exhibition, curatorial, and visitor programmes.

Afternoon tea will follow all presentations.

There is no attendance fee for this presentation. Please RSVP to Tamara Patten by Friday 29 January to specify which session you will be attending. Email tamarap@tepapa.govt.nz, call 04 381 7246 or freephone 0508 678 743.
