Painter Elspeth Shannon and opens her new exhibition at Suite on Friday 26 February.
Shannon is fascinated by the relationship between outer appearance and internal structure, believing that humans have a much closer connection with other living things than we realise.
Her oil works consider the complex mechanisms through which our personal and public identities are constructed.
However, she wonders, in the end is it the same for us all? We are born; we procreate, and then inevitably die. How we eke out our existence is of little consequence in the bigger picture...
As Shannon has commented, by becoming the 'other', are we simply trying to escape who we really are? And are we really more complex and important than other animals or just different? Are we thinly veiled constructs masking internal vulnerabilities or divided selves?
Elspeth Shannon will show alongside Glenn Burrell’s exhibition Leftovers.
Exhibition opening with Elspeth and Glenn Friday 26 February from 530 - 730pm.
The works will be on display until Saturday 20 March.
