Onetangi Beach Races

Don't miss this iconic Kiwi happening. One of the best days out you'll have in 2010.

A favourite summer treat for Auckland families, the Beach Races has been a Waiheke attraction for over 100 years. Last year was the best ever with crowd-pleasing thrills to get the steadiest heart racing.

Races and competitions to watch or join in, just don' miss out. Everything is free to enter and great prizes are to be won. Not just horse racing - tractors, Sealegs and wheelbarrows thunder down the track and running races are also hotly contested.

Competitions to suit everyone - there is a massive Tug o War where the winning team can win up to $1000 for the charity of their choice, Sandworks open to all ages, a Big Dig for children.
Fashion in the Field for the ladies with four categories, historic bathing belles, avante garde, fancy dress and Mad Hatter. Judging 3pm. Mad Hatter (make a hat and bring it with you) for children, judging at 10.30am Get early ferries from Auckland to be in time for your event.

Enjoy the races, enter the competitions, sip wine at the cafes. Browse at the stalls, snack at the foodstalls and even have a swim - look for the designated swim areas - keep well away from the race track.

Bid at the Silent Auction tent (Eftpos and credit card available with any luck!). Giant wheelbarrow raffle full of goodies, win and wheel home the barrow too!

Fullers from Downtown and Sealink from Half Moon Bay, buses from Waiheke side to the Races.
