There are possibilities of drowning at home, around pools, drains, storm water, beaches, while rock fishing or collecting shellfish or boating.
In 2003 Asian ethnicities made up 6% (7) of New Zealand's drowning toll. That leaped in 2004 to 13% (16) followed by a steady decline to 9% (8) in 2006 and 3% (3) in 2007.
However, with approximately two-thirds of the Asian population living in the Auckland region (2006 Census) they are over-represented in the regional drowning statistics.
Auckland Regional Council’s Park Rangers will teach you how to keep you and your family safe in the summer.
