- a work in six parts, dimensions variable.
This work began as a response to the Colin McCahon exhibition
‘A Question of Faith’ seen in Wellington in 2003 on a return visit from London. I sat in my studio back in London with the catalogue and began to question some of the statements made in it.
A painting of his from 1953 ‘International Air Race‘ was the starting point for an examination of my environmental story. In 1953 the flight from London was a three day journey. Fifty years later it can be done in less than half that time , and for a lot less money but at considerable cost to the environment some would argue.
I began flying in NZ as a student to / from Tauranga and Christchurch , and later travelling internationally based in London. I have also driven many miles and even more kilometres for work and recreation. I live in buildings , I use energy , I survive…
To live and function in this world one has to acknowledge a certain level of consumption ( resources , information , ideologies , etc. ) but not without some attendant anxiety…
