On Thursday the 25th of February international harpist Robin Ward will be performing at St. Andrew’s Church, 91 Titiraupenga Street, Taupo as part of his 20-date 2010 tour of New Zealand.

The programme entitled ‘From the Golden Age’, is an exploration of the triple harp and its music. The programme includes music from the 17th century onwards, with a combination of music originally written for the instrument and Robin's own transcriptions. It includes music from the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic periods as well as music from Folk Traditions.

The concert starts at 7:30 pm and tickets are $20 for adults, $15 concession, and a donation for children under 18. For bookings and enquiries please contact the church office on 07 378 6059.

Robin is a very unique musician. He is one of only a handful of people who play the triple professionally in the world, and he also builds his own instruments.

In 2009 Robin delighted audiences over the length of New Zealand, while introducing them to the triple harp, and the capabilities of the instrument.

Robin’s talent and mastery of the instrument is complimented by his informative and engaging performance approach, through which he discusses the background and context of the music throughout the programme. For many it is the first time they have heard a solo harp played live.

Originally from New Zealand, Robin is currently residing in the UK, where he has been touring extensively. In 2009 between concerts in the UK and tours in New Zealand and Australia, Robin performed over 70 concerts.

In February 2009 he released his first solo CD; No Pedals Attached, and his second CD, is due to be released mid 2010. As well as playing the harp, Robin is also an accomplished instrument maker and harp teacher.
