Yoga for children is non-competitive, helps co-ordination and self-awareness, and aids in concentration, strength, balance, focus, flexibility, and peace of mind. We are excited to offer you a wonderful opportunity to study Yoga with a unique approach and application.
We provide you with the skills, knowledge, and experience to teach Yoga from toddlers to teens. This speciality training for certified Yoga teachers is part of the Samadhi Yoga 200 hour teacher training and is the only children's yoga teacher training in Australasia to be registered with Yoga Alliance and fits within the structure of the soon to be launched children's Yoga teacher standards.
The founding principles of Samadhi Yoga’s teacher training are
Function Over Form and Structure With Freedom.
Function Over Form guides the experience of children’s Yoga. The principle supports exploring the inward experience of a practice rather than the outward expression, and allowing gentleness, joy, acceptance and balance to be embodied.
We learn the functions of the various techniques, how each body can experience the “why” and “how” of the practice in a different way, and how to adapt a technique to allow function to remain the focus.
The training is structured in nine intensive modules of 20 hours each. Each module covers
Yoga techniques including:
·Asana – how various postures support the body to be strong, flexible, balanced,
healthy and peaceful, and how to provide a safe and supportive environment for
children to explore their bodies;
·Pranayama – becoming aware of the subtleties of breath and how to consciously
expand the breath at all ages;
·Relaxation, Meditation, Mantra and Yoga Nidra;
·Cleansing practices such as Jala Neti and Trataka;
·Songs and games that support Yoga practices;
·Teaching methodology including learning styles, adapting to special needs, use of
props, modifications, injury prevention and child protection guidelines; class structuring
and choreography/sequencing;
·Yoga philosophy, ethics and lifestyle;
·Anatomy, physiology, and child development from infant to puberty;
·Energetic anatomy such as chakras, nadis, koshas and gunas;
·The sisterhood of Yoga and Ayurveda;
·Practicums with opportunities to observe, assist and teach under guidance.
The style encompasses and embraces all traditions and lineages of Yoga.
Module Three – Crawling to 3 years
Module Four – 3 to 6 years
Module Five – 6 to 9 years
Module Six – 9 to 12 years
Module Seven – 12 to 15 years
Module Eight – 15 to 18 years
Modules 3-8 have a similar structure with age appropriate teaching methodology including
ethics, anatomy and physiology, child development, breathing practices (pranayama),
meditation, relaxation, visualisations, games, songs, activities, philosophy, jala neti,
trataka, partner and group work, class structuring, and practicums.
Module Nine – Family Yoga – including group Yoga at parties, retreats, and festivals, teaching parent and teen bonding workshops, philosophy through stories and themes, Yoga techniques for mixed age groups, practicum and the business of Yoga. An exam paper must be completed and returned within 4 weeks of attending each module. All exams must be passed for certification to be granted. A current first aid certificate is required for certification and is not included in course fees. If you are only interested in one or more particular modules, you may take these individually and receive a certificate of attendance with Yoga Alliance breakdown for continuing education credits. Modules do not need to be taken concurrently but to receive the full teacher training certificate, all modules and exams must be completed within three years (from date of first course).
