Two quirky folk outfits combine for your banjo fix.
The Longdrops are the next best unclassifiable band to come out of Auckland's eccentric musical underground. Sam Benge, Tavish Fraser and Louise Evans present a perplexing and thoroughly entertaining blend of folksy blues, bluesy folk, and singin' tales like none before.
Who else (in Auckland, at least) can claim to craft melodies poached from the Sound of Music, Count Bassie, Primus, the Wild West, Transylvania, Bruce Springsteen and the hills of Ye Ole Appalachia...all with shifty lyrics, and breakdowns on banjo, ukulele, fiddle, guitar and bass.
What do you get if you put two banjos in the same room? Alex and BB is one answer of many. By combining the 5-string banjo and the Irish tenor banjo, BB and Alex Borwick have created a sound that calls upon their musical backgrounds including Bluegrass, Celtic, Jazz, and even Classical.
They have proven that it IS possible to play two banjos in tune with each other, and they have even produced a few original compositions, which are undoubtedly a result of their varied influences.
