The Horse Series is inspired by Johnny, Philip's much-loved quarterhorse. In Tenei John Steed, Philip scratches Johnny with a spade with Johnny encouraging him to keep going by pushing his head into Philip.
These energetic paintings reveal Philip's close study of his horses in playful and vibrant renditions. The figurative elements within the abstract paintings depict personal experience while allowing viewers their own interpretation.
