Open a door to mini Great China at the ASB LunarFest 2010 - The Year of the Tiger.
Manukau City welcomes the public to Chinese New Year Celebrations with a day of fun-filled activities. The New Zealand Chinese community welcomes its Lunar New Year – the Year of the Tiger on Saturday 13 February 2010.
Traditionally, Chinese around the world start New Year celebrations by reuniting on New Year Eve; this year it falls on 13 February. For the third year, World TV Limited is organizing ASB LunarFest 2010 The Year of the Tiger, inviting everyone to join in the biggest reunion at the TelstraClear Pacific Events Centre in Manukau.
ASB LunarFest 2010 The Year of the Tiger opens to the public at 3pm. It is a summer extravaganza with cultural dance and performances, traditional/ modern music, arts and crafts, Asian food as well as games organized indoors and outdoors within the venue.
NZ Chinese Idols winners and Chinese New Zealand Beauty Queens will be on stage showing their talents. A group of professionally- trained performers from China, Hunan Acrobatics Troupe, will grace the occasion with its extremely skilled acrobatic-ballet. Magic and a variety of ethnic performances will also add colour to this year’s carnival.
Prime Minister John Key will be attending the official opening at 7pm and presenting a Red Pocket to the Lion symbolizing good fortune through the year.
The festival would be concluded with a spectacular Fireworks Display at 10pm. Over 20,000 people are expected to attend the celebrations.
It is believed that the Year of the Tiger signifies bravery, courage and power. Hopefully this marks the economic rebound that the whole world has been looking forward to in 2010.
