Martin Thompson's work is the pinnacle in concentration. Working in ink-marking pens on millimetre square graph paper, reciting his equation - often out loud - as he works, an intense and complex pattern emerges, one that often suggests quilt design or TV static.

In 2005 Thompson was included in an exhibition called 'Obsessive Drawing' at the prestigious American Museum of Folk Art in New York City, since then he has enjoyed considerable attention at home (once Wellington - now Dunedin) and abroad.

'Five New Works' is the sum of a years work, the fruits of a recent 'Eureka moment' that allowed Thompson's work to become more elaborate still.
