Presented by Toi o Manukau, the 2010 Waitangi Day Family Celebrations will carry a theme of celebrating family diversity.

The celebration is Auckland region’s largest Waitangi Day event, and the second largest commemorative event in New Zealand, with 40,000 people attending each year.

The event aims to raise awareness and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi through the sharing of arts, crafts, music and food. Come along for a day of ceremony, education, culture and entertainment.

2010 Programme:

• Atea - Ceremonial Welcome
Whakangahau - Performance Stage with live New Zealand music. Headlined by Kora, Stan Walker, Maisey Rika, J Williams and Erakah, Sweet & Irie, 2010 World breakdance champions ReQuest plus many more.

• Tamariki Zone - Children’s Area
Free children’s rides and activities, traditional Maori pastimes and area for the under 5s.

• Nga Toi - Arts Area
Exhibition, workshops, interactive art making and demonstrations of weaving, ta moko, carving and painting.

• Tiriti Korero - Treaty Education
Information and discussion forums with guest speakers will cover current Treaty issues.

• Marketplace - Shopping Village
A variety of stalls selling healthy kai, arts, crafts, clothing and merchandise, including information stalls.

Presented by Toi o Manukau and sponsored by Manukau City Council, Wiri Licensing Trust, Manukau Water and Te Manatu Taonga: Ministry for Culture and Heritage.

Important information for visitors
People attending for all or most of the day are advised to be sun smart and bring their sun block and sun umbrella.

The event is alcohol, smoke and drug free.

Free parking is available at the Chapel Road entrance to Sancta Maria College and three designated parking areas on the Stancombe Road side of the park. All parking areas will be clearly identified. 'No parking' areas will be enforced and cars in breach may be towed away.
