The Wellington Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Michael Joel will present a concert of works by Beethoven, Sibelius and Webster.

In Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No 3, Michael is excited about working with guest pianist Claire Harris. ‘She’s such a fine, intelligent musician – it’s great to hear someone play with so wide a range of colour and touch’.

In Sibelius’ Symphony No 2 Michael comments ‘I love the way each of his symphonies is its own complete sound-world – they are such individual pieces’.

Louise Webster’s new work entitled ‘Learning to Nudge the Wind’, evokes the different facets and characters of wind, something we’re very familiar with here in Wellington!

Michael Joel has been a professional conductor for over 20 years. He has worked in many genres: orchestral, operatic, music theatre and choral. He shifted to Wellington in 2007 and now lives on the Kapiti coast. He divides his musical time between conducting, viola playing in the Vector Wellington Orchestra and teaching.
