The Tineli Nelson Tour de Femme is a premier women's only road cycle tour. With 32 starters in it's inaugural year in 2001, numbers have grown rapidly with over 75 on the 2008 startline.

The philosophy of organiser Averil West, is to provide women with an opportunity to compete in an event where tactics are dominated and determined by women, thus providing extra challenge and where their achievements are not overshadowed by their often physically stronger male counterparts.

Averil also believes that the confidence of novice female riders can be improved through racing alongside elite and discovering that everyone is important and has a role to play in making a successful event. This concept has successfully brought together international, national and novice riders.

Rather than follow the more traditional racing structure of grades the Tineli Tour de Femme puts all riders together then recognising overall and age groups in the final prize lists. This concept provides young and novice riders with the chance to line up with their heroes and learn from them, whilst having the opportunity to test themselves against the more experienced.

Looking at celebrating the 10th year in style - and calling for all ideas on how best to do this. 10 years of promoting womens cycling - pretty impressive!
One idea is to open up a recreational grade this year - with two stages slightly shorter.... thoughts?
