Contemporary artist Simon Morris, known for adapting to the challenges presented by specific gallery spaces, has designed a monochromatic painting to fill the gallery’s big wall - Black Watercolour, 2010.
The piece is a geometric study in colour gradients, and captures the play of light and shadow. Black Watercolour, 2010 is large-scale, temporary and mobile by nature, and can embody a variety of human experiences, from the act of transition to the passing of daylight. The painting draws upon the physical characteristics of the gallery and the surrounding environment, quietly but firmly asserting its presence.
