In Assented Brooke Georgia pulls back the shroud to reveal vulnerable often confronting work. Through her choice of materials, processes and imagery she has created a series that stands purposefully against that vulnerability.
Line is authoritative in this exhibition. Here the drawn line is utilized for its purity and rawness, the essential tool in translating thought and emotion with deftness and vision. The barely tethered intensity of the portraits softened only by the textured softness of the charcoal and the brokenness of the lines. A dark line of a leather strap is drawn across the room, and quiet almost hidden lines of milk dribble down the walls. In the delicate lines of the multiple pen and ink works, the domestic and fanciful subjects cut into the pages like scars. Even the sketches placed to diffuse the intensity – the empty room or vacant chair, are imbued with emotive cues.
Like something suddenly exposed, there is both a violence and a beauty in these works.
