Introducing the debut solo album Dirt Poems from Wellington artist Tessa Rain. Engineered by Lee Prebble and produced by long-time collaborator Age Pryor, Dirt Poems is a spacious, solitary beauty. It is dedicated to the roads of the South Island, which Rain walked alone with just her guitar for six weeks. Although that walk detemined her to finally record, she wrote the songs for the record over a period of twelve years...making this release a much awaited event!
In contrast to Rain's lonesome walk, the recording of the songs has been very much a warm family-type affair, with her brother Rob Hinkley playing, along with friends Jen Lyons, Ricky Boyd, Age Pryor, Lee Prebble, Jason Murphy, Jesse Rivest, and other guest artists.
Tessa Rain is best known in New Zealand and internationally for her collaboration with Fly My Pretties. She wrote the songs Carrier Pigeon and Smoke Me from the gold selling album The Return of Fly My Pretties, and Mauri from the Fly My Pretties - A Story album, which reached number one in the New Zealand charts.
Rain is also known for her long history of collaboration with Age Pryor; together they released the album Homerecordings. The song Funny Shadow from this album was written by Rain and was later featured in the Miramax film Eagle vs Shark.
