Watch Simon Halsey work with 12 New Zealand choral conductors in weekend choral masterclasses. Each conductor will receive coaching as they work with two of Auckland top choirs, Viva Voce and The Graduate Choir, New Zealand.
Simon is the chief conductor of the 64-voice professional Berlin Radio Choir (www.rundfunkchor-berlin.de), working alongside such conductors as Simon Rattle, Claudio Abbado and Marek Janowski. His work preparing the choir for recordings with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra has earned him a Grammy Award two years running. He has also been Director of the City of Birmingham Symphony Chorus for over 25 years.
Simon's New Zealand visit will include two full-weekend choral conducting masterclasses (for advanced conductors) in Auckland and Wellington. Observers are welcome, although the classes are fully subscribed.
Simon will also be running choral workshops in Christchurch, Wellington, Auckland, Hamilton and Palmerston North (see separate listings). There will also be open rehearsals with the Orpheus Choir in Wellington on 24 August and with the Auckland Choral in Auckland on 26 August.
