Like a rat nosing through your garbage, Ben Holmes' mixed media installation On Top of the Mountain stalks suburbia in search of hidden trails.

Consisting of short ‘instructional’ videos and a museum-style display of what might be described as litter or junk, Holmes’ installation is an archaeological excavation of the late 20th century. Yet instead of treasure, we find infomercials, news updates and computer generated 3D environments.

Ben Holmes is an Auckland based artist whose practice incorporates music, sound, video and performance. In 2007 he received a Master of Arts from the Auckland University of Technology.

He has subsequently taught Intermedia art, writing, music and music theory in various contexts. He also has a long-standing professional experience as a musician/composer in theatre, dance, film and different bands.

This exhibition is held in the Film Archive mediagallery.
