Angel Gordon began playing Celtic music as a "holiday" from his legitimate career as a concert pianist. Well, that was in 1993, and what a long, strange holiday it's been. Renown for his abilities on a slew of instruments, he has contributed beyond words to numerous live bands - Ghengis Carney, The Dogs Bollix Band, Cuchulainn - and maintained his own very high musical standards in every case.
Kerrin Worsfold began playing accordian at age 9, unable to forsee the shame and disillusionment it would bring, spreading through his life like an incurable sickness. Not to be deterred he went on to play with most of Auckland's busiest celtic bands, and contributed to many local recordings as a player, engineer and arranger. A sympathetic accompanist on several instruments, he is no stranger to the folk scene. No stranger than the rest of you, that is...
Angel and Kerrin have worked together almost constantly since 1994, both in bands and in the duo format, and in various instrumental combinations. Their choice of material is strictly self-indulgent and reaches back into the bowels of the Irish tradition, but includes songs from contemporary writers such as Christy Moore and Elvis Costello. This is their first performance in two years - they're just glad it will be somewhere nice, like the East Coast Folk Club.
The 45 minute guest performance will be preceded by a variety of club singers.
