Membership Behind the Scenes Event.
Museum Members have an opportunity to discuss weaving with members of the Professional Weavers’ Network of New Zealand and Auckland Museum’s Curator Maori, Chanel Clarke. Weavers’ Network members will bring their own weaving to discuss and Alison Francis will present images from their 2008 Lightwaves exhibition held at Pataka Museum of Arts and Culture in Porirua, which showcased traditional weaving in exciting new displays. We will look at examples of weaving from the Museum collection including traditional and contemporary Maori articles.
Members are invited to bring along any special cloth or woven item and briefly tell us its story over afternoon tea in the Members’ Lounge. “Preparing food is not just about yourself and others, it is about everything.” — Shunryu Suzuki.
$10 (includes afternoon tea).
Bookings essential for all membership events: Email friends.events@aucklandmuseum.com or phone 09 306 7923. Please leave your details and you will be contacted with a confirmation of your booking.
