Impressive! – Group Show

Impression: Technical term for making an original artwork through the print-making process as opposed to a reproduction of another artwork.

Through the various processes of Printmaking the artist makes marks and creates images unachievable through other media. After working on a plate, block, or screen, making direct or indirect marks to form an image, the printmaker enjoys sustained expectancy waiting for the result as the print passes through the press, or under a screen.

The nature of print has changed considerably in the last century with technology playing a large part in its development. The making of mono-prints, where a plate or block may be treated with various ink applications and additional processes to make a ‘one off’ print is now an acceptable practice for artists and collectors worldwide.

The exhibition represents a range of print processes and presentation formats and intends to raise the awareness of mark-making possibilities when using print as an art-form. During the exhibition a display of school students’ work from printmaker Toni Mosley’s classes will be on show at the Nathan Homestead café.

As part of a hands-on experience, a series of short one day classes are also offered during the exhibition’s season.
