For this year’s winter performance, Top Dog Theatre presents the world acclaimed production of, Popcorn by Ben Elton, directed by Derek Doddington.
From the author of the best selling book, along with his great comedy achievements, “Black Adder” and “The Young Ones”, Popcorn promises to be a tremendous evening of comedy, drama and high tension.
Popcorn is a very funny black comedy, a thrill-a-minute hostage drama, a satirical look at the Hollywood system and at the culture of all blame and no responsibility. It has glamour, guns, gore, sex, drugs, vigorous discussions, men in underwear and women… Ah, best not divulge what some of these naughty ladies will do to get what they want!
Hollywood director and egomaniac Bruce Delamitri (Charles Grubb) arrives home one morning with his Oscar under one arm and latest starlet Brooke (Louisa Clarkson) under the other to discover Wayne (Michael Woods) and his girlfriend Scout (Lizzi Tollemache), the Mall Murderers, in residence.
Bruce’s film about a young couple on a murdering rampage may have won him the Oscar, but now Wayne and Scout are living out his direction. Matters take a turn for the worse as decisions need to be made as to who is going to take the rap.
Also present along the way is Farrah (Kim Georgine-Sluis), Bruce’s Hollywood wife, Velvet (Claire McCallum) their 15 year old daughter, and Karl (Mike Adams), the sleazy producer and a television crew Bill (Jamie L'Huillier) and Kirsten (Sarah ?), both in their underwear, and then..
The play is 2 hours long (max) with interval.
