Presented by the Hamilton Civic Choir in a unique joint venture with the Gallagher Hamilton Civic Choir and the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra.
Johannes Brahms' choral masterpiece, the German Requiem, in a concert which will be the highlight of Hamilton’s 2010 choral music calendar.
Written as a memorial to Brahms’s mother, the requiem is a work of great beauty which transcends religion and offers profound comfort and consolation to all mankind.
Hamilton’s own Rupert D’Cruze will conduct the performance. Young rising star Madeleine Pierard will sing the soprano solo, and highly regarded singer, composer and vocal tutor, David Griffits, will sing the baritone solos. The Hamilton Civic Choir is joined by singers from other local choirs to form a 100+ voice chorus which takes a significant role in the requiem. This monumental work has rarely, if ever, been presented in the Waikato – don’t miss this opportunity to hear it performed live by one of the country's best orchestras.
