Come to Fat Eddies to get your funk on with The Green Beat, a dub, blues and D&B band from Christchurch.

The band started out 3 years ago in a barn in Ohoka just north of Christchurch. Jamming, playing covers as most bands do. They then began writing original material and playing small gigs, parties and the odd pub gig around the North Canterbury and New Brighton area. As the name and popularity grew the band started playing with local acts such as "Soul System", "Taos" and "The Mad Faces". Then Bigger acts such as dDub, Cornerstone roots and Weta.

Recently the band was selected to be in the top 30 finalists in the "Jim Beam Homegrown Band Search" and finished in the top ten overall in the country, as well as hitting number one several times over on the "MySpace daily music chart" for New Zealand, all without releasing a track.

Green Beat have just finished recording their first EP "no cover charge" which was recorded, mixed and mastered by the band. Not to mention all the Artwork for the posters, CD covers and Myspace Page all done by members of the band. The Green Beat live show at Fat Eddies is something that is always changing and is not to be missed. As well as our 11 originals we play over 50 covers and counting and constantly change the songs we play gig to gig. We love interacting with the crowd and keeping an intimate setting right throughout. Which is easy when you have lava lamps, a Green Beat signature.

If you are a fan of dub, D&B, and blues we invite you to come down and listen and sway with our tunes which have been described by a few as "hypnotic and calming" Or as we say, "buzzy".
