The Late Feature will be an hour's live stand-up with four top up-and-coming acts of the Auckland scene. We know it's a Sunday, we know you'd normally be sitting at home watching Sex and the City - and/or CSI if you're really treating yourself - and we know that's buckets of fun. But ask yourself: how many times have you seen Grissom buy new shoes with Samantha and the girls? And how many times have you watched Carrie painstakingly gather DNA evidence from someone's blood-spattered bidet?
So instead, for just $10 you'll see an hour of varied stand-up comedy and even get an alcoholic or soft drink included. The Academy Cinema will also pay for your entry to this event if you purchase a full price ticket to their showing of the hugely entertaining documentary 'Rocksteady: The Roots of Reggae' at 7:40pm, directly before. The Late Feature will take place in the cinema's main auditorium - see pictures of our previous shows to see our lovely stage setup.
You can reserve tickets at the Academy Cinema box office right now - it's underneath the Auckland Central library building, which is approximately 42 seconds walk from the intersection of Queen and Wellesley Streets. Or about 59 seconds if you've got several awkward shopping bags forcing you to stop and rest once or twice. Call them on 09 3732761, or direct any queries to uncutcomedy@gmail.com. Ta!
Our featured acts:
Alan Mcelroy (IRE) - Hosting and MCing proceedings is this loveable Irishman. Ireland have the Euro and everything, so you can feel properly cultured in his presence. Until he starts telling jokes.
Reuben Lee (UK) - Reuben is possibly the most entertaining thing I've seen from South Yorkshire since steel. Perhaps even more so. And I really love steel. One full half of the very popular (and in fact sold out) 'Full English 2' in this year's festival, I've seen him crack up more audiences than I can count - and I can count to 27. Catch Reuben in one of his last Auckland gigs before he buggers off to England to embark on a UK tour.
Sean Downie (NZ)- A regular at the Classic Comedy Club for their Raw and Pro nights alike. He also performed a set to a 400-strong crowd at the Southside Comedy show during the festival. Sean's self-effacing style and quick wit will keep your laugher glands in an almost constant state of secretion.
Sanjay Patel (NZ) - Achieving 2nd place is this year's Raw Comedy Quest, Sanjay was also one of the "Four Heads" in the successful NZ Comedy Festival show earlier this year. His mixture of surreal, dark and clever humour is something you simply have to experience.
Andy Whiteoak (UK) - Still relatively fresh off the boat, but has spent his time in Auckland making people laugh with his social and physical awkwardness. And he also does stand-up. Despite his tons of international travel, his carbon footprint is non-existent - and he'll prove it.
That's your lot. $10 including a drink is a nutty price for such an event, but then it is Sunday night, and the TV is so great.
