The ‘Nature of Birds’ is a joint exhibition by artists James & Cheryl Wright at the Auckland Botanic Gardens, Visitor’s Centre Gallery, 102 Hill Rd, Manurewa. It opens on Friday 27 August from 5pm – 7.30pm and continues 8am-4pm Mon- Fri & 9am-4pm Sat & Sun until Sunday 19 September 2010.

The exhibition will feature sculpture, painting & mixed media and the theme is inspired by the natural bush environment and prolific birdlife surrounding the artists’ studios at their home in Clevedon. This is an exhibition to note in your diary as it is the first time this husband & wife team have exhibited together.

James Wright

Steel, stone and wood are some of the many mediums James is passionate about working with.
From his studio, large contempory forms (sometimes kinetic) emerge, as well as delicate small pieces reflecting nature. Currently inspired by the abundance of native bird life at his Clevedon studio,
James’ work is collected in Aotearoa and around the Pacific Rim. Public commissions in Auckland and Queenstown.

Cheryl Wright

Cheryl draws inspiration for her art from the native bush surrounding her studio in Clevedon and her passion for colour is evident in all her works. She loves the way colour can infuse the mind to create moods or feelings. How different colours lift the spirits while others evoke a tranquil contemplative mood.

An emerging mixed media artist, Cheryl has exhibited in group shows around NZ and held her first solo exhibition in 2009. She is a member of ‘Artfuse’ a group of ten practising artists who exhibit together regularly.
