Anaconda Waihi

Anaconda Waihi is a teams or individual multisport adventure race. The beauty of this event is that it is genuinely suitable for athletes (or athletes-to-be!) of all abilities.

The guns can take on the challenge as individuals and the weekend warriors and adventure seekers can grab a few friends or workmates, call yourselves a team and head away for a fun-filled, memorable, action-packed weekend in one of the most beautiful spots that Godzone has to offer.

The event is comprised of five legs: 1.6km ocean swim; 14km ocean paddle; 13km coastal/trail run; 26km mountain bike; 2km team run.

The course has to be seen to be believed - no exaggeration. We think its pretty cool that the inaugural Anaconda Waihi Race (which has four, highly successful, sister events staged in Ozzie) starts on Anzac Saturday in the pristine, crystal clear waters of Anzac Bay near Waihi Beach.

From there kayakers paddle around the headland and down the length of Waihi Beach, enjoying views of the spectacular white sand beaches from behind the breakers. Leg 3 starts at Brighton Reserve and runners hit the trails out along the coastal track taking in the stunning sights down the beach, up the coast and out to Mayor Island before heading up into the MTB transition on private farmland.

The MTB is of the rural /forest variety with only a small stretch of country road to negotiate before heading up into more farmland, forestry and other surprise territories guaranteed to get tongues wagging!

The course finish and event base at the imposing, rustic Cornish Pumphouse on the edge of Martha Mine in Waihi township itself offers a suitably memorable setting for this special event. Grab some friends or family and go the distance.
