In Spring One Plants Alone is the moving story of Puhi, an 80-year old Tuhoe woman who Vincent Ward filmed over an 18 month period in 1978.
He quietly observed the frail woman as she struggled to survive and care for her middle-aged schizophrenic son Niki. The story haunted Ward and 30 years later he re-visited it in the critically acclaimed movie Rain of the Children.
