For the two evenings preceding Anzac Day, and on Anzac Day itself, Auckland War Memorial Museum projects "Heroes of Gallipoli" onto the northern facade of the museum building. This remarkable footage of Anzac soldiers in Gallipoli was digitally restored by New Zealand director Peter Jackson. The Auckland War Memorial Museum also screens rare archival film of the New Zealand division crossing the German frontier into Cologne, and the Maori Pioneer Battalion being welcomed home onto the Auckland Domain in 1919.
The 20-minute projection will screen on loop over the three evenings from 7.30pm to 10pm. Visitors are invited to watch from the steps of the newly-restored Cenotaph and Court of Honour and then come inside the museum to sign the digital book of remembrance (on the evenings of the 23rd and 24th). Heroes of Gallipoli is screened courtesy of Australian War Memorial Museum.
